Hedgerow Goodies!
YARROW
It has some great folk names; Milfoil, Old Mans Pepper, Blood wart and Staunchweed to name but a few…
YARROW – MEDICINAL
Used medicinally for years as a cold and flu remedy, It has also been used as antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent and for stopping blood loss when used externally(hence the name staunchweed !)
YARROW – MAGICAL
Magically, when worn, yarrow protects the wearer. It can be used for love, courage and psychic power spells. It can attract friends and distant relatives as it draws the attention.
YARROW – OLD FOLKLORE
Old folklore says it is a herb dedicated to the evil one, It was known as devils nettles, devils plaything and bad man’s plaything. It was used for divination and courage spells.
YARROW – COOKING
In cooking, Yarrow leaves can be used when young in salads but the best use of it is to dry it. My favourite is to place some dried flowers and leaves in a pepper mill and use as a seasoning..it has a flavour similar to sage!
Have a hunt around and see if you have some Yarrow near you to spice up your cooking and your spells!
YARROW – TEA:
Want to increase your psychic powers? Try making a cup of Yarrow tea! Place a heaped teaspoon of dried yarrow into a pot, pour over a cup of boiling water and leave to infuse for a couple of minutes, strain and add honey to sweeten if desired. Yarrow tea is also lovely with a slice of lemon. When you are ready, focus your intent into the cup and spell;
By power of herb, I ask of thee
Open my sight so I may see
Yarrow, your powers I now command
Send signs and symbols to understand!
Sip slowly and imagine the powers of the yarrow flowing through you and collecting in the middle of your forehead (your third eye). Yarrow tea is also great as a hair tonic, simply rinse your hair with the infusion, meant to delay baldness and restore colour!
