Tear & Share Bread!

There is no other food that we can make that connects us as strongly to our ancestors and to our food than bread. It is a basic that most of us use daily but probably not many of us have the time to make it ourselves. This recipe is a great one to do if you feel you need to strengthen your bond with the food you are eating, or simply if you want to strengthen your connection with your friends. When you knead this dough really focusing on what you are doing, you are performing magic with food so give it your all! bb mandyxxx

Ingredients

375g Strong white bread flour

7g sachet dried yeast

2 Tsp sugar

1 Tsp salt

240mls warm water (approximately, you may need a little more or less depending on your flour)

4 Tbsp chopped herbs of your choice (I like to use chives, parsley and Thyme)

200g cheese cut into 8 cubes

Method

Line a round cake tin with greaseproof paper and grease the sides with a little oil.

Sift all the dry ingredients together into a large bowl.

Add the chopped herbs to the dry ingredients and mix through.

Add the water gradually and bring the ingredients together to form a soft but not sticky dough. Use your hands for this as it really connects you to your food.

Lightly dust your surface with flour and start to knead your dough. Keep going for around 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and firm.

Once kneaded cover and leave in a warm place to rise.

Preheat the oven to 190’C/350’F

Once the dough has doubled in size divide into 8 equal sized balls. Take each ball and knead again.

Place a square of cheese in the middle of each ball and form back into a ball.

Place each ball into the prepared cake tin so that they are just touching each other.

Place in the centre of the oven and bake for approx 25 minutes or until golden brown on top and when tipped from the tin it sounds hollow when tapped.

Serve warm with friends or wrap in a tea towel and take outside to your favourite spot to share with nature. Remember to leave some outside as an offering.xxx
